Male - vs - Female
We are
often asked if there is a difference between males and females. Every dog is an individual and differs in one way or
another.
The list below is taken from our personal experience and may not be true for all males & females.
Generally speaking……….
As far as training/obedience and temperament we have found very little difference between males and females.
In our opinion:
Females:
1.) Tend to be a little more protective and slightly more tolerant of small
children, possibly due to maternal instincts.
2.) Stick close to home. None of our females leave our
yard, they are content to stay on our property and not wander off.
3.) Unlike other breeds,
the female Corso can get just as large and muscular as the males.
4.) Females only come into
heat twice a year, there is very little bleeding and typically the female keeps herself and her surrounding area very
clean.
Pet quality females are required to be spayed which eliminates the heat cycle altogether.
Males
(Intact):
1.) Males “mark” their territory by urinating on everything.
2.)
Intact males can be very territorial and challenging to other intact males mainly when they smell a female
in heat.
3.) A Male can smell a female in heat up to 5 miles away so he will be more tempted to
wander off.
4.) Neutering a male may eliminate some of these behaviors.
